One of my suggestions you can use is if you go on a field trip or make up a poem on the States and Capitals.

I think you should have a "Boston Tea Party"afteryou finish that lesson. If or when you do this you should dress up as colonist and the teacher should be the king/queen.

at the end of the year let them write a play about something they learned that year

I think for the future social studies classes you should do more outdoor activities, more songs/sing-a-longs to get the feel of states and capitals, and also more SS Games.

I think maybe after reading the constitution, you could remix it like we did with the preamble
ReplyDelete(which I thought was really fun) to make it easier to understand for them.

p.s. have a
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious summer! =]
(I hope i spelled that right!)
I think you should have the kids make a constitution for their house after learning about it. Then make their own vesion of the Boston Tea Party when they start learning about that. then have them write down as many things as they can remember a couple days before summer vacation. Ask students what they want to do on the last day.
